Holiday Round Up – 2017
NEW! Holiday Mini-Session Masterclass!! Check it out here!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, I LOVE holiday sessions – and this year, I had 85 little ones in front of the camera in a 9 day span. Which fuels me creatively (but also makes December a GREAT month to relax and spend time with family!)
Items in the image above:
Fabric Christmas Backdrop – Owl Be Home For Christmas (Baby Dream Backdrops)
Brown Flokati (5×7 size) – Rugs USA
Red lantern – from home decor store
Little PJ’s for boys – search Etsy for “French pajamas”
Nightgown for girl – Joyful By Design For Kids on Etsy
Santa suit – from Amazon
Santa boots – from Amazon (bought separate as ones that came with costume weren’t very nice!)
Items in the image above:
Intuition Backgrounds – (Benjamin & Nebraska)
Mitten “banner”- Mitten Advent calendar from Restoration Hardware
Train – sweet find at an antique store
Overalls – EtsyItems in image above:
Intuition Backgrounds – (Benjamin & Nebraska)

Bed from Dreams Come True Beds
“Bedspread” is a table clothe
Paper packages – I made up, with a few decorations from home decor stores (framed image, rocking horse)
Red pjs gap
The candle above is an brass candle holder found at a second hand store with a ‘light bulb’ candle from Michaels (I then add in light using Photoshop)
“Knucklehead” coveralls from Amazon
(My son’s tool set) and I painted the “Santa’s Workshop’ on an old piece of wood
Make sure you have a spotter on hand nice and close and just out of the frame (or do a composite if they are wiggle worms!) when you have little ones up on a bed!
Remember – with the props, you can set them up differently. In this shot, the bed is facing straight on to the camera vs in the image below.
This backlit image uses a sweet nightgown and pair of angel wings (from a Halloween store). (here’s a link to a DIY angel wing tutorial)
This red cape came from a Halloween costume with the nightgown from Joyful By Design For Kids on Etsy
These cute little checked PJ’s are from
And the tree with burlap sack from Winners (home decor store)
Here’s an image for pinning so you can find this page easily in next season!

This was so fun to watch… thanks so much for taking the time to go over some of the things you use and where you source them. Very informative! You have wonderful, creative settings for your minis – no wonder you sold out just on repeat clients!
Love your work, thank you so much for this article and for all you do to help other photographers learn and find inspiration through your wonderful work.
These are amazing. I think my clients would love this, but I’m worried that my studio isn’t big enough for this kind of set up. Mine is just a spare bedroom in my house. It’s only like 11×13 or maybe 11×16, I’m not sure. Do you think I could pull it off? I’d definitely have to take out all my newborn equipment.
I started out in a much smaller studio – and honestly, my shooting area isn’t that much bigger than what you have. So I would recommend having just a couple set ups to start and see what works best in your space! Good luck!
