Bio:  Portrait Photographer & Nikon Ambassador, Julia Kelleher, is world-renowned for her moving, sentimental, and emotional portraits of pregnant women and children, and the bonds children have with their parents.  Specializing in fine art portraiture of newborns, maternity, children, and family, she runs her thriving retail studio, Jewel Images, Inc., in her hometown of Bend, OR, and educates other professional photographers worldwide on how to create unique imagery and build profitable studios.

Her work has been featured in multiple publications including Professional Photographer, Digital Photographer, ISO 1200, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Marathon Press, and ABC News. She has twice been named Diamond Photographer Of The Year through Professional Photographers of America and has won numerous international awards for her work, including the WPPI newborn and maternity international titles, and industry awards thorough Kodak, Lexjet, and the American Society of Photographers.

A host of her business and creativity podcast, Focus & Facets, a 13-time Creative Live instructor, WPPI instructor, and 7x Imaging USA platform speaker, Julia has spent her over a decade-long professional career helping other photographers hone their craft. She is passionate about business — teaching pros through her business mastermind, the 5 Carat Collective, to break into in-person sales, to master valuing their work, to market their art, and create systematized efficiency in their businesses. She teaches on the international stage multiple times per year and holds private creative workshops, offers her online membership, and personal mentoring sessions with students in her studio.

With over 30 years of photography experience, Julia’s father gave her a Nikon N8008, 35mm SLR film camera as a child. Putting it down after college to pursue her graduate degree in broadcast journalism, she attended and earned her Master’s degree at the esteemed Syracuse University-Newhouse School of Public Communications and spent over a decade traveling the country, covering general assignment stories and anchoring live news for all three television networks. She finally closed out her journalism career at KATU-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland, OR — the top 25 television network in the country — to pick up her beloved Nikon once again and pursue photography full-time.

A storyteller at heart and passionate about the emotional impact and human relationship a great image can create, she believes connection in portraiture is what moves a viewer, and story is what keeps them there. Her experience in journalism— connecting with people from all walks of life and expertise in media relations, and live communication —- has given her techniques to create emotional imagery that impacts the world, the speaking ability to be a world-renowned instructor, and the passion to help other photographers understand their clients, make incredible imagery, and build thriving, profitable businesses.
