Elena is the driving force behind Modern Market, and today she shares social media strategies that photographers can use to keep their feeds consistent and authentic without losing their minds!

Introduction (3:54)

Share a little about your new Curated Captions project (5:16)

It’s a struggle for photographers to share their passion in words on social media. This membership provides members with social media strategies through new monthly content and new captions that they can customize.  Part of the membership fees are also donated to Save The Children.

How do you help students find their social media voice? (7:43)

We all have our own story to share that is unique. Simply tell your story and share the things you are passionate about.

How do you define exactly what your story is? (8:45)

Not one thing defines us. It is different things, and multiple interests, which all work in combination with each other.

Advice for someone in that transition between interests? (10:35)

You don’t have to tie yourself to one thing. It allows you to pivot when you’re not completely passionate in one area.

How do you really know what your passions are? (12:02)

The things you do in your free time, and the things that you are researching and are curious about, is a good indicator of where your passions lie.

How to find the sweet spot between being polished and being authentic? (13:39)

It’s hard when you’re balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. But the messiness of the creative process is what resonates most with people.

What are your social media strategies when deciding what to post (16:34)

I found there were 5 topics that always do well on social media:

  1. Personal
  2. Passions
  3. Education
  4. Promotion
  5. Engagement

What are the basic social media strategies for stories? (19:56)

Stories are great for behind the scenes – I can just show up without having to overthink it, and not have the pressure of it being on my feed forever.

How do you show up online but still protect your mental health? (22:00)

We all struggle with comparison. There are 2 things that will help:

  1. Get busier! So you don’t have time to sit and compare.
  2. Celebrate their success with them, rather than being envious.

How do you see social media as something to love and not loathe? (26:06)

Batching your social media work is super important. Do it all at once instead of trying to come up with something daily.

Why knowing your worth is one of the most important social media strategies. (27:34)

Creatives need to realize that their worth is not tied to likes or engagement. Undercharging will also bring in the wrong clients that will make you feel worse about yourself.
