About

The Milky Way

blog-mob

As photographers, we freeze moments in time that will stay in the hearts of families for generations.

What we do matters.

Deeply.

We want to create beautiful photos (...you know, like the ones that fill our Instagram feed). But sometimes the art we envision isn't quite what we see on the back of our camera.

Sound familiar? I hear you.

When I got into the world of newborn photography, there were a lot of tears (not the happy kind!) and I felt really alone (and frustrated).

Luckily - you don't have to try to figure it out on our own.

tmw-about

If we haven't met yet,

I'm Lisa

I created The Milky Way to offer the friendliest, most convenient online education for photographers like you, to help you quickly learn the skills you need to create the art you love and a business that truly lights you up.

I'm passionate about creating communities where new and experienced photographers can connect with one another in a positive, drama-free space.

I just want to remind you that if I can do it

so can you.

I started with absolutely ZERO knowledge about my camera, lighting, posing or editing.

But with patience, passion and some mentors who gave me a hand-up, my work has improved (and so has my confidence!)

I look forward to being a part of YOUR photography journey - to help you evolve and push your creative limits!

Some Random Facts About Me

Newborn Photoshoot

So what's with the name

"Milky Way? "

Fair question..."The Milky Way" doesn't exactly seem like a likely name candidate for a photography school.

This space originally was created because my inbox was overflowing with DMs and PMs from photographers wanting to know how I used studio lighting, tips on newborn posing, how I did my edits, and I knew I couldn't keep up answering them one-by-one.

Since my photography business is called Milk & Honey Photography, the name “Milky Way” was just a fun play on words because I was sharing the 'milk and honey' way of doing things (Get it? Yeah...it's a groaner!)

I never imagined it would grow to include online Retreats with thousands of students and over a hundred different instructors...if I would have ever imagined, I likely would have come up with something else!  (perhaps we'll rebrand in the future!)

A Community for Everyone.

It's hard to describe what she does. Stuff. Lots of stuff (except stay silent...she never does that!)

Random facts you don’t need to know: Erin is scared of the dark. As in, really, really scared of the dark. She also used to pick lemons in Australia. It wasn’t a long career. 2 days to be exact.
